Our Monarch!

When we arrived at school this morning there was great excitement as our chrysalis that Ciara had brought in last week was empty. We then had the job of hunting for the monarch butterfly that had been drying out it's wings somewhere in the class. We didn't have to look too far as it was hiding behind the curtain and the bookshelf....phew! Ciara took the butterfly out to the garden behind Room 18 so it could safely stretch it's wings and fly away.

Fantastic collaboration in Kahikatea 17 and 18.

Today we worked on our group skills and each had a contributing role . We had a photo to look at and we discussed what we could see think and wonder. We shared our thoughts with another group at the end of the session. Great collaboration.

Data Gathering

This week we have been learning about graphs for mathematics. We know that a graph shows data and we can make conclusions about the information gathered. We had a great time asking our friends what their favourite ice cream flavour is and we will draw conclusions from the data collected tomorrow.

Maths

For the first few weeks of the term Kahikatea will be focusing on statistics in mathematics, looking at data, as well as creating and analysing different types of graphs.

What a busy first week....

The first week has flown by!  We have been very busy in our class getting to know each other!  We have been learning about what it takes to be a good friend.  We decided these are the qualities we will be aiming for as part of our class treat! We will continue to refer to these important traits so that our class continues to be an awesome place to be!

We are busy writing postcards to our class after receiving a postcard from Mrs Brown and Mrs Worthington.  It has been great to hear about everyone's holiday adventures.

Keep the goodie bags coming in - we are looking forward to sharing these!

SWIMMING!

Today Kahikatea 17 and 18 braved the cooler weather and went for a swim. We were so impressed with the children who remembered their togs today. The children were very happy and confident in the water and managed to get changed quickly after the swim too. Please remember our swimming days are: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We are looking forward to seeing more children swimming this week.
